Simon Thomas Pirie Kitchen, Hidden Lake Poole

Hidden Lake is a luxury multipurpose house in Poole. You can stay, host private events, hire it for photoshoots and more. The owners comissioned a beautiful custom kitchen from our long suffering client Simon Thomas Pirie, so we were tasked with capturing it in all it’s glory!

The first thing that strikes you about the kitchen is the open space, especially on a sunny day with the doors open! It feels very calm. The floor to ceiling cupboards give it an impressive scale but as the design is so clean they are not overpowering.

We set to work on the wide shots, capturing the kitchen space in isolation as well as in situ with the dining table and balcony. The sun light was fierce! So we added our profoto flash into the kitchen to up the exposure and balance the inside and outside spaces. This kitchen looked great on a lot of angles and the light and dark wood cabinets gave the images a nice contrast. So once we covered the main angles we punched it to see more details like wood grain and the details of the stone.

Propping was kept to a minimum, just using what was there and moving items around based on what each shot required. We always shoot tethered to a laptop so we and our clients can see the shots as clearly as possible. It’s not always easy to see the images on location but it’s important that everyone is aligned on what looks good on the day.

Our main lens for the wide angles was our Nikon 19mm tilt shift, we also used our 35mm and 105mm nikons when we started on the mid lenght and detail images.

The result is a set of images that shows the fit of the precise kitchen, the quailty of materials used and the flow of the space.
